Heute haben wir einen schoenen Strandspaziergang gemacht. Es war Dagos erster Strandbesuch und er hat eindeutig Gefallen daran gefunden. Er war aber schlau genug, Shiloh den Ball oder das Stoeckchen aus dem Wasser holen zu lassen.
Today we went for a nice walk to the beach. It was Dagos first beach experience and he loved it. He was smart enough to let Shiloh run into the water to pick up the ball or stick.

Heiligabend / Christmas Eve

Zuerst gab es einen Aperitif! First we had a aperitif.
Dann gab es Essen! Then we had dinner!
Lecker - Truthahn! Yumm - Turkey!
Spaeter wurden Geschenke ueberreicht! Dago brachte mir eins, das wunderbar funkelt ;) Later we had our gift exchange! Dago brought me one - bling-bling!
Danach hatten wir noch die ein oder andere Magarita in unserem Whirlpoo! Thereafter we had one or two Magaritas in our hot tub!

Frohe Weihnachten / merry Christmas

When the snow falls wunderbar and the children happy are,
when is Glatteis on the street, and we all a Gluehwein need,
then you know, it is soweit: She is here, the Weihnachtszeit!
Every Parkhaus ist besetzt, weil die people fahren jetzt
all to Kaufhof, Mediamarkt - kriegen nearly Herzinfakt,
shopping hirnverbrannte things and the Christmasglocke rings.
Merry Christmas, merry Christmas, hear the music, see the lights,
Frohe Weihnacht, Frohe Weihnacht, Merry Christmas allerseits....
Mother in the kitchen bakes Schoko-, Nuss- and Mandelkeks
and Daddy in the Nebenraum schmuecks a Riesen-Weihnachtsbaum.
He is hanging auf the balls, then he from the Leiter falls....
Finally the Kinderlein to the Zimmer kommen rein
and it sings the family schauerlich: "Oh, Christmastree!"
And everybody in the house is packing die Geschenke aus.
Mama finds under the Tanne eine brandnew Teflon-Pfanne,
Papa gets a Schlips and Socken, everbody does frohlocken.
President speaks on TV, all around is Harmonie,
bis mother in the kitchen runs: Im Ofen burns the Weihnachtsgans.
And so comes the Feuerwehr, with Tatue, tata daher,
and they bring a long, long Schlauch and a long, long Leiter auch,
and they're jelling: "Wasser marsch!" Weihnachtsfest ist now im Arsch.
Merry Christmas, merry Christmas, hear the music, see the lights,
Frohe Weihnacht, Frohe Weihnacht Merry Christmas allerseits!

Dago der Entdecker / Dago the discoverer

Dago hat herausgefunden, dass Wasser nicht nur zum trinken da ist..... Wir sind gespannt, wie er reagieren wird, wenn er das erste Mal am Strand ist!
Dago found out that water is not just for drinking and he was total excited about that ;) We can't wait to see how he will react his first time on the beach!

Welpen brauchen was zu tun - Dagos job ist es, die Zeitung von der Auffahrt zu holen und ins Haus zu bringen. Er stellt sich richtig gut dabei an, doch noch ist die Sonntagszeitung mit der ganzen Werbung drin, viel zu schwer fuer ihn. Herbert nimmt dann die Haelfte der Zeitung aus der Tuete und schon kann unser Hund stolz zeigen, was er so alles schon bewaeltigen kann.
Puppies needs something to do - Dago's job is now to carry the newspaper into the house. He is doing pretty good b`ut the sunday newspaper, with all the advertisments, is still to heavy for him. Herbert has to take out half of the paper and then our proud dog shows what he is already capable of ;)

Die Vorbereitungen laufen / the prep is on

Wir haben heute eine kleine Weihnachtsparty und Anja und ich sind von Kopf bis zu den Zehen vorbereitet ;)

Angel Tree

Ich liebe die Tatsache, dass die Amerikaner sehr hilfsbereit sind.
Seit 1999 unterstuetzen die Paychex Mitarbeiter den "Angel Tree". Jedes Jahr um die Weihnachtszeit koennen wir aus einem dicken Stabel Karten den Namen eines oder mehreren Kindern ziehen. Robin uebernimmt jedes Jahr freiwillig die Aufgabe, die Karten zu verteilen und wenn noetig, auch die Geschenke zu verpacken. Auf den Karten findet man die noetigen Informationen wie Name, Alter, Schuh- und Kleidergroesse sowie Interessen, ueber "sein Kind", dass man unterstuetzt. Dann ist es an einem selber, diesem Kind ein unvergessliches Weihnachtsfest zu bereiten.
"Mein Kind" dieses Jahr ist Esmeralda. Sie ist 7 Jahre jung und mag Hanna Montana. Neben Spielzeug habe ich ihr auch Kleidung gekauft. Ich hoffe sehr, dass sie und all die anderen 200 (!) Kinder, die dieses Jahr von meinen Kollegen unterstuetzt werden, wunderbare Weihnachten haben werden ;)
I love the fact that the Americans are totally into charities.
Since 1999 Paychex Employee's are supporting the "Angel Tree". Every year around christmas time Robin (she does sharing out the Angle Tree cards and if necessary also the wrapping) lets us pick the name of a child (or how many you want to present something to) out of a big stack. You'll find the necessary information about the kid you are supporting on the card like name, age, shoe and clothes size and interests. Then it's on you to make this an unforgettable christmas for "your child".
My kid this year was Esmeralda. She is 7 years old and likes Hanna Montana. Besides playthings I bought clothes for her. I really hope she and all the other 200 (!!!) kids who are supported this year by my coworkers have an unbelievable holiday ;)

Und dies war erst der Anfang! And this was just the beginning!

Es ist kalt & die Zeit verfliegt / It's cold & time is flying

In der Wettervorhersage haben am Sonntagabend hat man uns gesagt, dass ein Tiefdruckgebiet mit viel Regen auf uns zu kommt. So eine Sch.... ('tschuldigung) - sie hatten recht! Am Montag hat es richtig heftig geregnet, und ich meine richtig heftig! Sowas hatten wir noch nicht in den letzten 2,5 Jahren....(und ich brauch das auch nicht!)
Heute morgen ging ich dann wie gewoehnlich mit meinen Hunden spazieren und bekam einen Schock! Es war zwar trocken aber a...hkalt (nochmal 'tschuldigung). Wir hatten nur 5.4 Grad Celcius! Wir konnten unseren eigenen Atem sehen und die Daecher waren sogar ein wenig gefroren! Brrr! Und das naechste Tiefdruckgebiet soll schon am Freitag kommen und vermutlich bis Sonntag/Montag bleiben. Ich hoffe nur, dass Johnny Mountain (der Kerl von der Wettervorhersage) falsch liegt!
Wie auch immer, kann mal bitte jemand den "Zeitdieb" fangen? Zwei Jahre ist es bereits her, dass unsere wunderbare Schaeferhuendin "Kinna von Ducati" leider von uns gehen musste, vor fast einem Jahr bekamen wir unsere tolle Schaeferhuendin "Shiloh", sie wird naechsten Monat schon 2, und vor zwei Wochen haben wir unser neustes Familienmitglied "Dago von den Pankower Wiesen" in unserer Familie begruesst. Wir feiern dieses Jahr schon das dritte Mal Weihnachten in den USA - die Zeit verfliegt nur so......
On the weather forecast they said on Sunday evening that there is a thunder storm coming with a lot of rain. WTF - they were right! On Monday we had heavy rainfall, and I mean really heavy. Something like this we haven't had in 2,5 year.... (and I don't need this!) I woke up this morning and took my two doggies, as usual, for a walk - and got a shock! It was f***g cold but at least not raining. We had only 41.7 degrees Fahrenheit! We could see our breath and the roofs of the houses were a little bit frozen! Brrr! The next thunder storm is supposed to come on Friday and will probably stay 'till Sunday/Monday. I hope Johnny Mountain (the guy from the weather forecast) is wrong!
Anyway, can anybody please catch the time-thief? Two years ago our wonderful German Shepherd "Kinna von Ducati" passed away, almost one year ago we got our great German Shephard "Shiloh" ,she will celebrate her second birthday next month, and two weeks ago we did welcome our new family member "Dago von den Pankower Wiesen". We are going to celebrate our third christmas in the US - time is flying by....

Erinnerungen / Memories

Wisst Ihr was? Als die Serie "Beverly Hills 90210" in Deutschland anlief, war ich vom ersten Moment an "abhaengig". Ich fand es klasse zu sehen, wie die kids in Amerika ihr Leben leben. Die Nr. 1 der Cheerleeder war immer in den Kapitaen der Football Mannschaft verliebt. Sie war die Schoeneste der Schule und er immer der heisseste Typ... Ich war neidisch, dass sie Homecomming, Prom (beides Schul-Tanzveranstaltungen) und Jahrbuecher hatten. Im Moment liebe ich es, meine Buegelwaesche am Samstagmorgen zu machen (nicht, das ich es wirklich liebe!!), da dann meine Lieblingsserie der 90er im Fernsehen wiederholt wird...;)

Heute sah ich das vierzig Jahre alte Jahrbuch vom Abschluss-Schuljahr meiner Arbeitskollegin. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich in eins reinschauen konnte - kannte ich es doch bisher nur aus dem Fernsehen. Wir sollten sowas wirklich in Deutschland einfuehren - es ist eine tolle Erinnerung!

Uebrigens ist es total witzig, all die Orte im Fernsehen zu sehen - schliesslich lebe ich in dieser Gegend :)

You know what? When the show "Beverly Hills 90210" started in Germany I was addicted from the beginning. I loved to see how the kids in the US were living their lives. The captain of the cheerleeders was always in love with the captain of the football team. She was the beauty of the school, he was always the hottest guy.... I was jealous that they had Homecomming, Prom and yearbooks. Right now I love to do my ironing on Saturday mornings (not that I really love it!!!) because they repeat my favorite show of the 90's on TV.... ;)

Today my coworker brought her fourty year old yearbook from her senior year. It was the first time that I saw something that I previously only saw on TV, in real life. We should really have something like this in Germany - what a great memory!

BTW - it's funny now to see all the places on TV because I do live in this area ;)
