4 - in words .... FOUR !!!!

Unglaublich....vier Jahre ist es nun schon her, dass wir in die USA gezogen sind....

Rueckblickend....was soll ich schreiben?!

Es ist noch immer ein Abenteuer - nicht mehr jeden Tag aber doch noch oft genug. Wer diesen Blog verfolgt, weiss wovon ich rede ;) Und ich hoffe, die Abenteuer und auch Euer Interesse bleiben uns noch eine ganze Weile erhalten!

Uebrigens - in einem Jahr koennten wir die Amerikanische Staatsbuergerschaft bekommen, sollten wir uns dafuer bewerben! Es bleibt also spannend ;)

Unbelievable....four years have past already since we moved to the US.....

Looking back....what should I write?!

It's still an adventure - not anymore every day but still pretty often. Who ever reads this blog knows exactly what I'm talking about ;) I hope that all the adventures and also your interest will stay with us!

BTW - one more year and we could (by any chance) get the american citizenship, if we decide to apply for it! You see, it will stay thrilling ;)

Danke an alle da draussen, die an meinem Geburtstag an mich gedacht haben! Ich hab mich super gefreut ueber alle die Glueckwuensche und Geschenke! Dieses Jahr wollte ich nichts "verruecktes" machen und somit haben Herbert und ich den groessten Teil des Tages mit unseren Vierbeinern verbracht. Wir waren alle zusammen wandern /Berge erklimmen (booh war das heiss im Canyon) und spaeter am Tag musste ich dann ja auch noch das Geschenk von Herbert ausprobieren. Ich habe naemlich so einen Stender bekommen, in den man sein eigenes Fahrrad stellen kann und so bin ich nun in der Lage, in die Pedale zu treten ohne mich von der Stelle zu bewegen. Das ist eine super Trainingsalternative zu meinem Laufband! Zum Abendessen ging es in den Macaroni Grill, ein fuer uns neues Restaurant - sehr zu empfehlen! Nochmals vielen Dank - Ihr alle habt meinen Tag besonders gemacht!

Thanks to everybody out there who thought of my birthday! I really felt loved 'cause of all the birthday wishes and presents I've got! I didn't want to do anything "crazy" this time so Herbert and I spend the day mostly with our doggies. We all went for a hike (puuuuh, it was hot in the Canyon) and later that day I had to try the present I got from Herbert. It's a frame where you can put in your bicycle - so I'm now able to ride my bike without leaving the place. That's a great alternative to the treadmill I'm using by working out in the garage!
For dinner we went to the Macaroni Grill. It was a new restaurant to us and I can really recommend! So again you to all of you - you made my day!

Samstagabend war ich zumeinem ersten Hoedown (Wikipedia: Ein Hoedown ist eine Art amerikanischer Volkstanz oder Square Dance in Zweiertakt...) Melanie und ich waren von Linda und Jim, Mitglied im Fullerton Rotary Club, eingeladen worden. Um es ganz genau zu nehmen waren Herbert und Oliver auch eingeladen, konnten aber aus beruflichen Gruenden nicht kommen. Nachdem Melanie und ich uns ueber unser Outfit im klaren waren hatten wir einen wirklich lustigen Abend mit einem super BBQ und tollen Unterhaltungen. Ich mich natuerlich auch imLine Dance versucht muss aber gestehen, dass ich da klaeglich versagt habe ..... aber ich hatte zumindestens Spass (und alle die mir zusahen vermutlich auch!).

Saturday night I went to my firstHoedown. Melanie and I got invited from Linda and Jim, member of the Fullerton Rotary Club. Actually Herbert and Oliver were invited too but couldn't make out of work related situations. After Melanie and I figured out what to wear we had a funevening with a great bbq and good conversations. I even tried the line dance but have to admit that I didn't really get what I was supposed to do..... but at least I had fun!

Vergangenen Dienstag hatte ich noch frei und ich war froh, dass ich den ganzen Tag mit meiner Mutter verbringen konnte. Wir waren zum Mittagessen bei Joe's Crab Shack, wo wir einen wahnsinns Ausblick auf den Hafen von Newport Beach genossen. Danach trafen wir uns mit Herbert und einigen "seiner" Hunde. Wir spazierten gemeinsam durch den Corona del Mar State Park mit klasse Blick ueber den Pacific. Spaeter ging es fuer Mama und mich nach Balboa Island, ein wenig Schaufensterbummeln..... Irgendwie war alles herabgesetzt, ich meine preislich so richtig guenstig! Eine Beautique bot alle Damenkleidungsstuecke fuer 10 Dollar an und alle Accessories (Handtaschen, Schmuck etc.) waren 30% herabgesetzt! Ich glaube bereits jetzt koennt Ihr Euch denken, dass wir die Insel nicht ohne Tueten verlassen haben ;) Donnerstagabend ging es dann noch ins Nagelstudio! Nun sind wir bereit fuer unser letztes gemeinsames Wochenende in diesem Jahr!

Last Tuesday I still was off work and I was glad to be able to spend the whole day with my mom. We had lunch at Joe's Crab Shack with an awesome view over the habor of Newport Beach. Later we met with Herbert and a couple of "his" dogs for a nice walk at Corona del Mar State Park, overlooking the ocean. After that Mom and I went to Balboa Island, strolling through the little shops and beautiques. Everything was on sale - I mean really on sale! One beautique even offered all ladies clothes for 10 bucks and all accessories (handbags, jewelry) were 30% off! So by now you can probably tell that we didn't leave the island without bags ;) Thursday evening we went back to the nail place. Now we are all set for our last weekend together this year!

HWH's 70th birthday ;)

My dad would have had his 70th birthday today!

Even though he's been gone for a long time there aren't a lot of days I don't think of him and miss him!

sunny last day on O'ahu

Koennt Ihr es glauben? Jetzt gerade trinke ich meinen (vermutlich) letzten Mai Tai auf O'ahu. Ich muesste eigentlich anfangen zu packen, aber irgendwie ist mir so gar nicht danach .....

Heute morgen sind wir fruehstuecken gefahren und danach bummeln durch Waikiki. Es war immer noch super bewoelkt und manchmal wurden wir von einem Regenschauer ueberrascht (nicht wirklich!). Gegen 11.00 Uhr ging es zurueck zum Hotel und genau dann kam die Sonne raus. Wir konnten den ganzen Nachmittag am Strand liegen und ich habe endlich die Farbe bekommen, auf die ich gehofft habe ;) Wir sind auch wieder ein paar mal schnorcheln gewesen und haben viele farbenfrohe Fische zu sehen bekommen - und eine Moraene (das war schon irre)!

So und nun zurueck zu den Tatsachen - ich fang mal an zu packen. Morgen mittag geht der Flieger Richtung OC California. Freu mich schon auf die Vierbeiner und Mama!

Can you believe it? Right now I'm drinking my (probably) last Mai Tai on O'ahu. I have to start packing my suitcase but I just don't feel it.....

Today we went out for breakfast and strolled around Waikiki while it was still cloudy, and once in a while a short shower (not really) surprised us. Around 11 am we went back to the hotel and right then the sun came out and we could enjoy the whole afternoon sunbathing at the beach (finally I got the taint I was hoping for ;) We also went snorkeling a couple of times and saw again a lot of colorful fishes and also a moray eel (Moraine) - kind of freaky!
Now back to reality - I have to start packing! Tomorrow around noon our flight goes back home to OC California. I'm excited to see my doggies and my mom again!

Lyon Arboretum

Der Lyon Arboretum ist der einzige Botanische Garten der USA der direkt im tropischen Regenwald ansaessig ist und gleichzeitig ist dies der einzig leichtzugaengliche Teil des tropischen Regenwaldes auf O'ahu.

Aufgrund des vielen Regens in den vergangenen Tagen war der Marsch durch den Regenwald recht rutschig und man musste sich arg darauf konzentrieren, wohin man trat. Als es dann wieder mal anfing kurz zu schuetten, brauchten wir allerdings nicht einmal den geliehenen Regenschirm aufspannen, da uns das Blaetterdach ausreichend schuetzte.

Die Bilder unten geben vielleicht einen kleinen Hinweis darauf, wieviele tolle Blumen und Baeume wir wieder gesehen haben. Noch mal zu erinnerung - die Insel ist super gruen (aber wen wundert es auch bei all dem Regen ;)

The Lyon Arboretum is the only botanical garden located in the tropical rainforest in the United States as well as the only easily accessible tropical rainforest on the island of O'ahu.

Because of all the rain in the last couple of days the walk through the rainforest was pretty slippery and we had to watch our steps. When it started to rain we didn't even had to open our borrowed umbrella 'cause the leafy canopy kept us pretty much dry.

See the pictures below to realize how many beautiful flowers and trees we saw. Again - this island is super green (but who wonders - with all the rain :)
